The work we undertook here consisted of placement of faggots to create a soft bank as a wildlife corridor for threatened local species such as watervoles, otters as well as a variety of plants, insects and birds.

Fulling Mill The river-bank around the house had started to collapse, faggots were put in-stream to create protection and to preserve the natural wild feel to the river. This was then infilled with brushwood and planted with a variety of wetland plants.

Here we see the effects of the eroded over-widened riverbank leading to an increase of silt in-stream which suffocates the in-stream macrophytes and spawning gravel, which in turn creates a habitat bottleneck for brown trout.

We have worked on projects at Upavon using faggots to narrow riverbanks and create new riverine habitats in conjunction with local riverkeeper and landowner.
