Past and Current Projects

Here you will find a short repository of our previous work experience and current projects in the following areas:

River Itchen

Fairoak Drainage Culvert

The work we undertook here consisted of placement of faggots to create a soft bank as a wildlife corridor for threatened local species such as watervoles, otters as well as a variety of plants, insects and birds.

River-bank

Fulling Mill

The river-bank around the house had started to collapse, faggots were put in-stream to create protection and to preserve the natural wild feel to the river. This was then infilled with brushwood and planted with a variety of wetland plants.

River Test

Upper Test
The fishery had been neglected with a loss of in-stream plant cover, low flows and excessive siltation of spawning beds. This was rectified by narrowing the river promoting growth of ranunculus and scouring silt downstream. This also created more habitat and cover for insects, fish, voles, otters and fishermen.

Here we see the effects of the eroded over-widened riverbank leading to an increase of silt in-stream which suffocates the in-stream macrophytes and spawning gravel, which in turn creates a habitat bottleneck for brown trout.

River Avon

We have worked on projects at Upavon using faggots to narrow riverbanks and create new riverine habitats in conjunction with local riverkeeper and landowner.
